Hello, my name is Janice and this is “Elvis” my Gammill Optimum computer assisted longarm quilting machine. We work together as the Wee Bee Quilting team to produce beautiful quilts from the tops other quilters piece. I have been sewing for much of my life. My mother taught me to sew on a Singer treadle machine at about the age of eight. Several years later, Mother purchased our first electric sewing machine and my love for sewing truly blossomed.
Much of my sewing life revolved around sewing clothing for myself and others. Eventually, I added some home decorating to my sewing repertoire. I dabbled in a little bit of quilting—mostly tying baby quilts and simple bed quilts. About five years ago, I became more serious about my quilting and began piecing and machine quilting on my domestic sewing machine. I’ve lost track of how many quilts I pushed and pulled through that small arm opening. Every quilt was a real workout and a frustration. I knew that I would never be able to accomplish the beautiful quilting I wanted to do without investing in a long arm quilting machine. In May of 2004, I retired after a long career in education and made the leap into the long arm quilting world. Elvis came to live with me in July of 2004 and we have been making beautiful music—and quilts—together ever since.
